The 15-day bamboo-based livelihood training programme, a collaborative initiative of NABARD, the Kerala State Bamboo Mission (KSBM), and the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI), concluded successfully on January 23, 2026. Held at the KFRI campus in Peechi, the programme was specifically designed to promote women empowerment and received vital organizational support from the Idukki District Industries Centre and the Pattayakkudi Development Industrial Co-operative Society. The valedictory session was inaugurated by Shri Ranjith M.K., Wildlife Warden of the Peechi Wildlife Division, who emphasised the importance of sustainable resource management in rural development.
The academic and practical sessions were led by prominent experts in the field. Dr. A. V. Raghu, Principal Scientist and Head of the Extension and Training Division at KFRI, welcomed the gathering and delivered an insightful session on the role of bamboo in sustaining livelihoods. This was followed by an informative presentation titled “Introduction to the World of Bamboo” by Dr. V. B. Sreekumar, Principal Scientist and Head of the Forest Botany Division, who also offered the vote of thanks. Throughout the training, participants were given the opportunity to explore the KFRI Bamboo Nursery and Xylarium, gaining firsthand knowledge of various bamboo species and their industrial applications.
